Game Day Grass-Fed Beef Sliders
Are you ready for some sliders!? Fall brings with it cooler evenings, light breezes and Sunday football parties. For the next one you're invited to, in addition to bringing a bottle of wallet-friendly, versatile Pinot, make some easy and filling appetizers to take along. These grass-fed beef sliders are a snap to put together...and who doesn't like downing several sliders during game time?
Ingredients: (makes 24 sliders)
- 1 pound grass-fed beef (preferably organic)
- 1/2 red onion, diced
- 2T sweet relish
- 24 small slider rolls (toasted if preferred)
- Individual slices of your favorite cheese
- Burger fixings
Preheat oven to 400 degrees and combine first three ingredients into a bowl – mix well. Coat a cookie sheet with nonstick spray and roll your meat as if you were making meatballs. Golf-ball size or just a little smaller will do the trick. Place on the tray, 4 to a row.
I coat the bottom of a small jar with nonstick spray and gently press down on each of the balls to make nice, even patties. Leave about a 1/4 inch between each patty. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes; remove and add the cheese. Return to the oven for 5 minutes or until cheese melts.
Remove again from the oven, place patties on the rolls and have fixings on the side for folks to dress them up as they like. Believe it or not, I love a fresh cucumber slice on my burgers, so slice some up and try that as an alternative, healthier addition to a burger!
These sliders are an easy, quick appetizer that can be made 30 minutes before game time or slipped into the oven at the start of halftime. It's been 7 months since the Super Bowl, so it's time to enjoy some football food on the weekends.
