Meet the Porron
If you're looking for something a little more exciting than a wineglass, check out the porron. Shaped like a decanter with a watering can spout, the porron is used for drinking and sharing wine. You simply tilt the vessel in front of your face and let the wine stream into your mouth. Since your lips never touch the container, you can pass it around the table for everyone to enjoy.
It may seem like the latest wine fad, but this glass wine pitcher is actually a traditional vessel that originated in Catalonia centuries ago. It was commonly used in Catalan households until the mid-20th century. Nowadays, you can find it as a novelty in Catalan or Spanish restaurants … or you can just buy it online. But be forewarned: There's a learning curve with drinking from a porron. Spills and stains may ensue as you figure it out.
