Red Wine Hot Chocolate for Cold Winter Nights
Looking for a warm and delicious treat for New Year's? Make a batch of red wine hot chocolate for your party and no one will ever forget it. Rich, creamy and thick, this drink is a great combination of two of life's best flavors. It's also perfect for warding off the winter chill.
The recipe below makes 4 servings.
What you need:
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup half and half
- 1 1/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 1/3 cup dry red wine
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1. Combine the milk, half and half, chocolate, wine and sugar in a saucepan or small pot. (If you're using a sweeter wine, skip the sugar, or add to taste.) Turn the heat to medium-low and stir often, until the chocolate is melted and the ingredients are blended together and smooth. The liquid should darken in color as the chocolate melts. Make sure it doesn't boil!
2. Remove the pot from the heat, and add the salt and vanilla. Stir well, and pour into mugs. Add marshmallows, a stick of cinnamon or dark chocolate shavings as an extra treat. Serve hot, and enjoy!
